Overtime, rules to remember…
Some of you occasionally work hours in excess of your normal work schedule. This will be particularly true for APS members who will be working on the Olympic Games.
The collective agreement, in article 18, stipulates that these hours are paid (or accumulated, as the case may be) as follows:
- Hours worked beyond 471.25 hours per quarter up to a maximum of 520 hours will be paid or “banked” as compensatory leave at a single rate per hour, at the employee’s choice.
- Hours worked beyond 520 hours per quarter will be paid or accumulated as compensatory leave at the regular rate plus 50% (time and a half).
Important: The current quarter is from December 4, 2025, to March 4, 2026
(see APS website at start-and-end-of-terms.pdf ).
The new quarter dates will be posted online shortly.
Regarding hours worked on the 6th and 7th day of the week, these are paid at the regular rate plus 50% according to the following rules:
- You are guaranteed a minimum of 4 hours of pay from the first minute of work.
- If you work more than 4 hours, you will be compensated for your entire shift.
- All hours worked beyond your schedule are also compensated at the rate mentioned above.
NB: For people working on the Olympic Games, it is important to note that CBC has requested a derogation from the provisions of the Canada Labour Code that govern and limit working hours. These individuals will therefore be asked to work a greater number of additional hours than normal. However, Radio-Canada must try to grant one day of rest per week, when possible.
